Job Description:
Harwood International is best known for transforming the Uptown

As the Director of Engineering, you will advise management in
developing processes, policies, and procedures as it relates to the
Engineering Department. For mechanical, electrical, plumbing,
building envelope and other key systems for the real estate assets
you will draft, review, or consult on project specifications,
contractor scope of work and bid instructions, project
administration, and project commissioning. You will be expected to
be able to run small - medium size construction projects
independently and consult Harwood project management specialists on
larger jobs. You will direct the work of other engineers, provide
training, and implements effective engineering methods that
provides technical guidance as a resource. A key member of the
Harwood management team, you will participate in engineering design
and coordination meetings with managers in the Development, Asset
Management, and Hospitality vertical.
Job Responsibilities:
- In cooperation with the organization's senior leadership
team(s), direct the development of new engineering strategies, as
well as to suggest improvements to existing ones
- Observe the practices of all employees involved in the
engineering process, as well as training and guiding employees to
ensure that safe practices are followed
- Participate in the design and construction oversight process
for all systems (mechanical, electrical, fire safety, smoke
control, access control & security, HVAC, etc.) in all
buildings
- Monitor and maintain all systems (mechanical, electrical, fire
safety, smoke control, access control & security, HVAC, etc.) in
all buildings
- Draft, review, or consult on project specifications, contractor
scope of work, bid instructions, contractor selection, and
preparation of contracts
- Management contractor projects in progress; ensure
commissioning has occurred properly, and process invoices and other
paperwork
- Develop specifications and oversee building service contractors
to ensure building systems are properly maintained and
utilized
- Responsible for safety regulations, walk-throughs pertaining to
facilities, audits, budgets, deadlines, appraisals, vacation
schedules, computer generated reports
- Directs property maintenance staff, including hiring, training,
and personnel development
- Oversee Computerized Maintenance Management System usage and
reporting
- Responsible for overseeing the Engineering Department staff and
capital budgets
- Reviews budget reports and financial statements to determine
how staff is performing against targeted budget
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, or
related field
- Minimum of 10 years' experience of management experience in
Class A office building engineering/facilities management. Hotel /
restaurant engineering experience a plus.
- A minimum of 5 years of direct experience in a significant
leadership role within a corporate engineering department of
comparable size and scope
- Thorough understanding of HVAC, electrical and building
automation systems
- Good computer skills, with the ability to operate Windows based
software.
- Universal CFC certification preferred: HVAC, electrical,
mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems or process controls
