It's an opportunity to do your life's best work.(sm) - As VP, Health Plan Consulting for Optum StepWise Underwriting Advisory Services, you will be responsible for leading the consulting team and growing relationships with the leading US health plans. You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. - Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 20-30 experienced consultants, overseeing their engagements at leading US commercial health plans and providing coaching and mentoring to the team
  • Engage with senior-level health plan executives to identify opportunities and develop trusted advisor relationships
  • Manage the business of the StepWise Underwriting consulting practice, including measuring and improving customer satisfaction, ensuring quality client delivery, streamlining practice processes, improving profitability of engagements, and maintaining high utilization for the consulting team
  • Contribute to the development of new Optum analytics services targeting the Underwriting and Actuarial departments of health plans and non-health plan customer segments (e.g., pharmacy benefit managers, reinsurers, third-party administrators, reinsurers) You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor' degree or equivalent experience -
    • 10+ years of experience working for or consulting with healthcare organizations -
    • 5+ years of experience with Underwriting, Actuarial, Healthcare Economics, and/or Product Development functions for healthcare organizations -
    • Experience in leadership roles with technology implementations for or consulting with health plans
    • Experience with collaborative selling to health plans or other sales experience -
    • Ability to travel as needed; up to 50%

      • Master's degree -
      • Actuarial training, including Society of Actuaries ASA or FSA designation
      • Management consulting experience -
      • Experience with predictive modeling, risk scoring, and/or healthcare analytics solutions -
      • Former leadership positions (director or above) within health plan desirable -

The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $174,600 to $332,200.
