Primary responsibilities include traffic management of all AHA/ASA news releases (English and Spanish), website page/multimedia production, managing the flow of news releases, video media tours (VMTs) and other national media outreach efforts as well as analytics for the online newsroom and the development and implementation of a strategic plan to increase followers and engagement for @HeartNews social media news site. The CM will be responsible for maintaining good relations and the flow of information and communications services to the news media, the public, AHA/ASA national and regional communication staff and key volunteers. In addition, the CM will support media surveillance and risk management efforts, create media pitching materials and support media outreach efforts and support media relations projects as needed as well as the pre-planning and the on/offsite execution of certain newsroom operations at AHA/ASA scientific meetings throughout the year.This essential position will be part of a key team with responsibility for newsroom/@HeartNews Twitter postings/distributions after-hours/holidays in order to respond to breaking news as part of an overall staff-assigned coverage schedule.The Communication Manager will provide research analysis as requested for monthly corporate review meetings.In addition, this position service as back up support to pull and distribute daily media coverage report to select staff and volunteers.#TheAHALife is our company culture, our way of life, reflecting our diversity and inclusion, our focus on work-life harmonization and our Guiding Values.   • Co-manage AHAs online newsroom: Specifically reviewing, proofing and uploading news releases, creating/building content on the back end of the website and distributing it to media via online distribution systems and vendors. Coordinate the flow of multiple news releases, VMT and other media outreach projects. Proven project management and personal integrity are required.
    • Must be flexible in ability to handle urgent deadlines and unanticipated needs.
    • Create and implement a social media content strategy plan to grow followers and engagement. Provide analytics reports, collect and analyze information about @HeartNews Twitter site usage and as needed, for the newsroom.
    • Craft strategic media relations materials and pitching journalists on story ideas, required. Experience leveraging media analytic databases (such as Meltwater) preferred.
    • Support media surveillance and risk mitigation needs. Provide research analysis as requested for monthly corporate review meetings.Qualifications
      • Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or related course of study
      • Five to seven years of the following experience:
        • Media relations experiences including crafting strategic media relations materials and pitching journalists on story ideas. Experience leveraging media analytic databases
        • Strong strategic social media content development skills and experiencing interpreting analytics to increase followers and engagement. Experience with software such as Sprinklr preferred. Excellent project management skills; Demonstrated competence and success in priorassignments, proven project management and personal integrity are required
        • Excellent written communication skills and proficiency in writing news releases in AP Style. Strong proofreading and editing skills.Excellent computer literacy with MS Office and other MS programs, (MS SharePoint, Teams, MS Dynamics, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and Zoom required
        • Demonstrated problem solving techniques and a drive for results required Must be flexible in ability to handle multiple projects including unexpected projects and urgent deadlines. Preferred Qualifications:
          • Experience working on website content, specifically creating/building content on the back end of the website and its distribution, preferred
          • Video editing skills and experience with postproduction software such as Adobe Photoshop (Creative Suites Production Suite) and creating graphics (Canva, etc.) preferred
          • Prior experience in Public Relations; for a multilayered agency or national organization
          • Prior experience communicating health/medical information or scientific concepts
          • Prior professional business presentation skills including the development of PowerPoint presentations.
