Nationwide, KIPP students complete four-year college at a rate of 36 percent, comparable to the national average for all students and approximately three times higher than the average of students from low-income communities.You can see all our job opportunities at https://kipptexas.org/join-our-team/ .Job DescriptionThe OpportunityThe Regional Manager of Transportation (RMT) will oversee bus service moving KIPPsters to and from school every day. RMT is responsible for the efficient management of day-to-day operations and will also analyze the trends of ridership, rider's behavior, cost, and route efficiency. The RMT manages one Regional Transportation Coordinator in Austin,who also assists with Dallas. The goal is to achieve on-time and safe transportation service for KIPPsters to and from school each day. The RMT collaborates with the Regional Transportation Coordinator to manage a fleet bus contract and serve as a liaison for administrators and parents for any change. As a member of the operations leadership team, RMT will also oversee a budget and ensure that the department stays within its limit. RMT will create and submit monthly reports that track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) designed for efficient bus service management. Key ResponsibilitiesLeads the transportation department on day-to-day operations:

  • Designs professional development opportunities for the Regional Transportation Coordinator
  • Manages the development and implementation of policies and procedures, system upgrades, and standards of service expectations across the two regions
  • Monitors daily operations to assure bus service is performed efficiently and in accordance with appropriate regulations, standard operating procedures, policies, and guidelines
  • Distributes bus schedules to schools prior to the start of the school year
  • Facilitates meetings with stakeholders to address operational issues and builds a rapport of support for school administrators by addressing concerns in a timely manner
  • Maintains strong communication with bus service providers and KIPP Texas school teams to facilitate problem resolution in an efficient and effective manner
  • Responds promptly to concerns or emergency notifications from parents, school leaders, teachers, and other faculty members
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with parents, school and other support partners
  • Provides recommendations to the Managing Director of Operations in partnership with Director of Student Transportation during periods of inclement weather regarding schedule changes
  • Oversees route efficiency and leads the planning for annual route optimization while complying with the Transportation Department's Funcional Goals
  • Travels throughout both regions for campus visits, rides bus routes, and audits bus stops to observe loading and drop-off proceduresManages resources to optimize bus service elevating safety and quality for all KIPPsters to and from school:
    • Manages transportation budget and ensures the department operates within its limit
    • Serves as a liaison for field trip requests between schools and bus service provider to ensure service is scheduled
    • Maps opportunities and implements plans to achieve continuous improvement in transportation with the goal of providing excellence in service
    • Oversees and promotes the use of technology on buses to enhance best practices elevating bus service experience for KIPPsters
    • Schedules and leads meetings with the bus service provider to address operational concerns and monitors monthly report submission
    • Prepares weekly and monthly dashboards to summarize service in terms of on-time arrival, ridership and expense management
    • Tracks department's data to meet goals and ensure regions are up to performanceQualificationsEducation and/or Experience
      • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; at least five (5) years' experience in school district transportation operations, with at least one (1) year experience hiring and supervising staff
      • Budget management experience
      • Knowledge of safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to pupil transportationSkills
        • Passionate about the KIPP Texas mission
        • Routing scheduling software management skills; knowledge of the principles and practices of pupil transportation planning, scheduling, and route development
        • Skills integrating special education ridership needs
        • Exceptional project management skills, with an ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously
        • Excellent interpersonal skills and an energetic attitude; ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization and quickly build rapport
        • Skills and ability in organization, time management, task prioritization, and recordkeeping
        • Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high-quality work in a dynamic environment
        • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
        • Service-oriented, able to adapt to a changing environment while applying flexibility to work under pressure and remaining calm in the midst of competing demands
        • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Google applications (Sheets, Docs, Google Drive), with the ability to quickly learn new technologies (Slack, video conferencing apps, etc)
        • Must have reliable transportation to travel between campuses
