Optum is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to fill the role of Distribution Master Data Management & Governance Manager specialty distribution business. The Distribution Master Data Management & Governance Manager will be on the team of an exciting new specialty distribution business serving patients with specialty and rare disease pharmaceutical manufacturers and healthcare providers by distributing and servicing therapies, at the frontier of healthcare. -

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring proper controls and governance are applied in our master data management (MDM) and governance functions related to pharmaceutical distribution services, bringing continuous improvements to the processes and tools used to achieve excellence in data quality, addressing gaps in data governance, remediating any data quality issues, creating solutions, and executing the plans. This role will work closely with our finance team, and our technology and data partners, at all levels of the organization.

As a new Optum business, we are building on our strengths but also challenging the status quo. We are creating a business that is designed to specifically serve the unique needs of patient populations using Specialty Pharmacies and supports the opportunity for expansion into additional therapies, which require enhanced services and new capabilities over traditional specialty distributors.

Primary Responsibilities: -


  • Act as subject matter expert on all financial, material, vendor and customer master data elements as they are established and used in SAP and consuming systems
  • Create data tables and maintain various functional data fields required to operate wholesale distribution systems
  • Maintain the integrity and quality of large data sets through the development of tools, reports, processes and tests which detect data anomalies to fix and improve data
  • Develop and sustain master data governance program
  • Enforce data governance policies and standards to ensure quality, accuracy and security of data
  • Work closely with data producers to ensure key data assets are entered, modified and deleted throughout the end to end processes in accordance with data governance policies and standards
  • Lead data governance streams for data catalog and data cleansing
  • Create and maintain interactive visualizations through data interpretation and analysis for presentation to senior management
  • Evaluate internal master data quality for efficiency, problems, and inaccuracies, and develop and maintain protocols for handling, processing, and cleaning data
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to remediate issues to ensure ongoing data integrity
  • Ensure KPIs and metrics are defined and published to appropriate stakeholders
  • Ensure employees operate within defined guidelines
  • Gain consensus from various parties involved and satisfactorily resolve objections among multiple stakeholders and groups
  • Coach and mentor team members to ensure requests are governed properly and executed per established SLAs
  • Own the request and approval process for all finance, product and customer master data requests
  • Ensure SOPs and process maps are established, maintained, and reviewed regularly
  • Identify opportunities and provide recommendations to improve data quality -
  • Participate in the execution of data governance use cases and in the development of policies and procedures

    • Bachelor's degree in Business, science or computer science or relevant professional experience
    • 5+ years of experience in the field of master data management
    • Experience working with multiple stakeholders across business and technical organizations
    • Proven knowledge of and experience with SAP finance transactional processes
    • Proven knowledge understanding how data impacts upstream and downstream systems
    • Expertise with data management systems for data catalog and data profiling
    • Expertise with data visualization platforms (Tableau, Power BI)
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
    • Demonstrated project management skills to plan, organize and execute work independently


      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Experience managing others
      • Experience in Pharma Distribution -
      • Experience in cross-functional and end-to-end process mapping
      • Experience owning SAP master data governance program
      • Proficiency in programming languages and data-clearing languages, such as SQL
      • Proven advanced problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills
      • Proven excellent presentation skills to a broad range of audiences
      • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and meet deadlines

          California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $85,000 to $167,300. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
