Primary care physicians in the General Internal Medicine Clinic
specialize in maintaining long-term adult wellness. Additionally,
an internal medicine team treats pediatric patients.
Both teams include experts in the prevention, early diagnosis, and
treatment of common disorders, including diabetes, heart disease,
and high blood pressure.

Our physicians coordinate the care of patients with complex
disorders, assuring that all aspects of their health receive the
proper care. They also oversee active research programs in
Alzheimer's disease, osteoporosis prevention, cancer epidemiology,
geriatrics, hypertension, and various genetic disorders, providing
patients the benefit of the latest medical thinking.
Experienceand Education Licensureas Registered Nurse by Board of
Nurse Examiners for State of Texas and one(1) year of clinical
nursing experience is preferred. Specialty areas may haveincreased
experience requirements as dictated by clinic or standard ofcare.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through a
courseaccredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) is
required. JobDuties 1.Delivers nursing interventions to assigned
patients that are consistent withstated medical plan of care
utilizing the nursing process to assess, implement,and record
patients' response in the medical record. 2.Schedules patients'
appointments, tests, and procedures via on-line computersystem or
telephone, and reinforces physician instructions in person
andthrough telephone contact. 3.Provides patient education and
documents patient's response in medical record. 4.Ensures
appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained
forresearch and/or medical treatment. 5.Triages patient phone
inquiries according to physician and/or departmentalprotocols and
documents such actions in patients' medical records. 6.Provides
working supervision and delegates tasks to licensed vocational
nurses,non-licensed medical staff, or office support personnel.
7.Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.
8.Participates in the recommendation of policy and/or procedural
changesaccording to nursing expertise. 9.Prepares equipment and
assists physicians during physical exams and medicalprocedures.
Prepares and administers medications as prescribed by physician.
10.Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to
ensure patientsafety and proper functioning of equipment. Maintains
adequate stock ofsupplies as required for work area. 11.Attends and
participates in meetings related to clinical activities. 12.Duties
performed may include one or more of the following core functions:
a)Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly
interacting withor caring for human-subjects research participants;
c) Regularly maintaining,modifying, releasing or similarly
affecting patient records (including patientfinancial records); or
d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing orsimilarly
affecting human-subjects research records. **OtherDuties: Performs
