Experience and Education Bachelor's degree in medicalfield
required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. 3-4 years of
medicalsurgery or intensive care unit experience preferred. Current
Texas RN (or BNECompact State) license required. Advanced Cardiac
Life Support (ACLS) may berequired in certain areas.
Job Duties Performs and documentsphysical, psychosocial, and
emotional assessments. Takes all assessments intoconsideration age
Anticipates patient's and/or patient's family'sexpectations and
needs and utilizes them in conjunction with assessment todevelop
appropriate plan of care for patient. Maintains and
utilizescompetencies per unit expectations. Utilizes critical
thinking skills inplanning and prioritizing nursing care.
Identifies and implements appropriate nursinginterventions based on
assessment. Completes documentation of interventions.Coordinates
interdisciplinary plan of care. Confers with members of health
careteam, sharing information and observations of patient and/or
patient's family,to ensure optimal patient care.
Prioritizes nursing interventions based uponassessment. Identifies
changes in condition as evidenced by assessment, labs,x-rays, etc.
Reports changes and takes follow-up action as appropriate.
Evaluates implemented interventions and modifiescare according to
evaluation. Documents interventions and modifications to planof
Adheres to appropriate policies, procedures,clinical pathways, and
nationally accepted standards of nursing practice whiledelivering
care to patients. Suggests practices to enhance nursing care
basedon current literature and research.
Provides answers and/or education to patientsand/or patients'
families. Completes documentation of all education provided.Obtains
feedback and evaluation of understanding from patient and family.
Ensurescomfort level of post-discharge care. Demonstrates effective
communication withchildren, adolescents, adults, and older
Welcomes and orients patient and family to unit.Encourages patient
and family participation in care. Reviews plan of care withpatient
and family. Explains special diets, tests, procedures, and
medications.Makes rounds on patients.
Reports errors promptly and takes appropriatefollow-up action to
rectify errors. Provides supervision of, and direction
to,unlicensed support personnel and nurses new to unit. Delegates
dutiesappropriately and within legal parameters.
Responds to patient's and/or family's complaintsin appropriate and
effective manner. Reports complaints to Clinical NurseManager or
designee in timely manner. Utilizes chain of command to
resolveissues. Serves as advocate to patient and family.
Participates in performance improvementactivities as directed.
Attends at least 80% of scheduled staff meetings and100% of
mandatory educational sessions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
