  • Must have good critical thinking skills and be able to work independently
  • Provide first aid, vital signs, and emergent care to students, staff, and visitors
  • Able to triage students for injury, illness and/or emotional care
  • Case manage students with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, food allergies
  • Administer daily, prn, and emergency medications
  • Conduct state mandated health screenings, document findings and follow-up
  • Conduct training for back-up staff on medications, UDCA, seizure, and etc.
  • Inform and train teachers/staff of their students with chronic health conditions
  • Create and/or maintain students' individualized health plans
  • Update and maintain immunization compliance
  • Conduct surveillance and prevention of communicable diseases.
  • Good documentation skills
  • Promote a healthy environment
  • Good organizational skills
  • Have good knowledge of google, email, excel, and etc.Qualifications
    • Required Education and/or Experience:
      • Completion/Graduation from an accredited RN or LVN program
      • Valid Texas RN or LVN license issued by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners
      • Minimum one-year experience in direct patient care in a hospital or a long care facility
      • Preferred Education and/or Experience:
        • Pediatric experience is preferred but not required
        • School nurse experience is preferred but not required
        • Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
          • Texas Nursing License (LVN or RN)
          • Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
            • School nurse experience preferred but not required
            • Hearing/Vision/Scoliosis certification but not requiredAdditional InformationFunding:The Specialist, Academic Recovery Intervention Curriculum (Primary School ELA)will be funded directly from the Elementary and K-8 Schools Emergency Relief (ESSER) grants awarded by the Texas Education Agency under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (ESSER II) and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ESSER III). This position will be funded solely (100%) from the ESSER II and III allocation for direct expenses through September 30, 2023, and may continue to be funded through September 30, 2024, depending upon the availability of ESSER grant funds. At the end of the grant period this position may be eliminated unless other sources of funds are secured to maintain this position or a similar position. The employee must sign this job description acknowledging receipt of the job description and signing their acknowledgement that this position is grant funded and is temporarily aligning with the terms of the grant period.Compensation:Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise. A competitive benefits package is also offered.
