Job Summary
The Physician Assistant will be working in a large Pediatric
Intensive Care Unit at Children's Health Dallas and Plano Campuses.
The Pediatric APP will be responsible for the assessment,
diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care
coordination as a first line provider to Trauma, Neurosurgery,
Solid Organ Transplant, Medical, Surgical and ECMO patients and
their families.
Schedule: variable including days, nights, weekends, and rotating
holidays
EDUCATION
--- Graduate of a Master's degree or higher Accreditation Review
Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
accredited Physician Assistant program.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
---Certified by the National Commission of Certification of
Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification required.
---Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board.
--- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life
Support (PALS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red
Cross based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice
Providers.
EXPERIENCE
--- One year of pediatric experience as an Advanced Practice
Provider in PICU, ER, or ICU preferred.
Compliance with the COVID-19 vaccine mandate enforced by the
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) is a requirement for this
position. Federal law requires individuals holding this position to
be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption for certain
medical, disability, or religious reasons. Individuals who do not
meet CMS vaccination requirements are not eligible and should not
apply for this position but are encouraged to apply for other
non-healthcare positions at UT Southwestern for which they
qualify.
Job Duties
1. Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing
physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including
psychological status.
2. Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement,
and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and
interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic
studies/results.
3. Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as
appropriate based on specialty and training.
4. Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and
education to patients, families and caregivers related to current
care and preventive health measures.
5. Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives through
planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings,
to improve clinical and system practice performance.
6. Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely
applies evidence based best practices to patient care.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

improvements in departmental policy, procedures, and protocols.

Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in a clinical environment. The
incumbent may be exposed to body fluids and infectious
diseases.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of
stated minimums require prior approval of Vice President for Human
Resources Administration or his/her designee.
This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the
provisions of Texas Education Code----51.215.
