Provides direct primary optometric healthcare services and participates as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Responsible for providing quality management of patients, presenting to the outpatient clinics with conditions of the eye.
Minimum Specifications
Education

  • Must have a Doctoral degree in Optometry from an approved College of Optometry. Experience
    Equivalent Education and/or Experience
    Certification/Registration/Licensure
    • Must be a licensed Optometrist for the practice of optometry in the State of Texas, licensed through the Texas Optometry Board.

      • Must be able to demonstrate effective optometry skills and techniques.
      • Must be able to determine objectives, set priorities, and establish and meet target dates.
      • Must be able to work effectively with other healthcare professionals and serve as a resource.
      • Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.
        Responsibilities
      • Provides primary optometric care to patients with conditions of the eye, ensuring appropriate treatment processes per patient.
      • Educates patients and families to ensure proper self management, follow-up, and compliance with established treatment.
      • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of Optometric Medicine by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and maintaining Optometric licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
      • Serves as an expert Optometric Medicine Clinical resource in order to ensure quality care is given to all patients. Trains technicians and residents. Maintains a patient base for resident training in the areas of contact lens fitting and/or low vision care.
      • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the out-patient eye clinic. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
      • Maintains a positive working relationship with patients, patient families, management, vendors, other hospitals, and PHHS staff to ensure effective departmental operations.
      • Participates in community services such as health fairs, community teaching, public lectures, etc. in order to promote PHHS as a patient centered/patient valued healthcare provider to the surrounding area.
      • Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, work flows, etc. for the Optometry Clinic and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and PHHS.
        Job Accountabilities
      • Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
      • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
      • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
