Full Job Description Summary of Position: Fiber Splicing
Technician The Fiber Splicer is responsible for the construction
and management of fiber infrastructure that includes; jetting micro
duct, connections, splicing loose tube single and ribbon fiber,
OTDR/Power Meter/VFL, troubleshooting faults, cabinet/NODE
equipment installation and certification, documenting, and testing
of all fiber optic cables within the systems fiber optic networks
and their related equipment with a high degree of accuracy all
while maintaining a professional appearance. Essential Functions:
In order to perform this job, you must demonstrate, either by
training or experience: - This position will consist of FTTH
daytime, but possibility of some night work. - Fusion splice,
terminate and install fiber optic connectors at both the NODE,
cabinet, and NID locations including both loose tube fiber and
ribbon fiber up to an 192ct fiber cable. - Must know the fiber
optic color code system. - Prepare and maintain splicing records,
schematics, and diagrams. - Proficient in using fiber tools and
fiber optic test equipment including traffic meters, fusion
splicer, power meter, VFL and OTDR. - Troubleshoot damaged fiber,
effectively and efficiently. - Familiarity of CPE local area
networks (LAN, WAN), and WiFi networks - Perform skilled
troubleshooting from the ODF to the termination point including CPE
- Respond to trouble tickets within acceptable company timeframe
standards - Perform routine preventive maintenance and damage
repairs/outages to distribution systems - Assist in locating buried
fiber optic cabling - Record and report all current tasks to
sophisticated CMS (Construction Management System) all record
changes immediately - Ensure that both he/she and all employees
comply with proper safety standards/ procedures and work practices
according to company standards, future infrastructure and/or the
customer, whichever standard is higher. - Able to participate in
on-call rotation for after hours service repairs, outages, and/or
damages - Must be able to read, understand and update splice
documentation and maps as required. - Able to lift a minimum 40lbs
at times - Responsible to keep company vehicle with clean
appearance, free of debris, and report any maintenance issues -
Ensure company vehicle has stock of daily supplies and safety
equipment - Able to work in a team environment, report to work on
time, and maintain professional appearance with company apparel
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Equivalent Education/Experience: - High
School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) - Minimum 2-4
years of experience with Fiber Terminations, Fusion Splicing and
Testing in an ISP and OSP environment. - Ideal candidate should
also have experience as a fiber optic technician, fiber optic
splicer, construction with fiber optic background, or fiber optic
telecommunications. - Clean & Valid Driver's License - Ability to
identify colors, counts, and read prints - Sit, stand, balance,
stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift 50 lbs. - Required Background and
NEGATIVE Drug Screening
