Overview:

HKS is seeking an experienced Sr. Technical Architect to join our team.

A recognized leader who develops construction specifications for projects and maintains master specifications. Possesses strong communication skills, a flexible attitude, ability to solve problems creatively and ability to foster and manage effective client and team relationships. Endorses the firm's values by personally influencing client service, innovation and communication. Acts subject matter expert for technical solutions across sectors.

Responsibilities:

• Prepares documents and specifications for projects, along with preliminary pricing
• Reviews implementation documents and other project information to write and edit specifications for projects and coordinates compliance with project requirements, office standards, technical conditions, acceptable standards, and codes
• Prepares specifications for bidding documents
• Maintains project specification files and updates as needed
• Advises Design Department materials selection and application
• Assists Construction Administration department with approval of materials substitutions
• Executes deliverables according to scope of services and HKS standards, best practices, and quality expectations
• Oversees and develops specifications including edits, assembling project manuals, printing and formatting specifications for all disciplines
• Leads and performs product research; assists project designers with material selection and system research
• Develops and maintains relationships with vendors / suppliers
• Coordinates and reviews consultant technical specifications for conformance with office standards
• Maintains technical resource library and list of technical resource contacts
• Works with project teams to develop documents throughout project phases
• Leads the quality checking process for the project technical specifications
• Conducts quality reviews of implementation documents while researching and preparing specifications
• Manages project deadlines and project-specific keynotes
• Ensures complete and coordinated technical specifications
• Works with project teams to evaluate constructability issues, determine the appropriate use of Building Material Technologies and develop technical specifications
• Attends client or consultant meetings
• Participates in team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues and coordination with other disciplines
• Assists in developing and implementing code compliance education and training programs for HKS staff
• Stays current on product development, new materials, code changes and industry trends
• Resolves conflict effectively and encourages a healthy team environment
• Seeks leadership opportunities by providing direction and feedback to team members and collaborating with team leaders
• Collaborates in and may be responsible for delivering a project on defined budget requirements
• Supports and may lead the business development process by identifying new opportunities, marketing current clients for repeat business and assisting with proposals, budgets and schedules
• Travel may be required
  
  Qualifications:
  
  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related field
  • Architectural registration preferred
  • Typically 15+ years of architectural experience, including 5+ year of specification writing
  • Certified Construction Specifier designation preferred
  • Sustainable design accreditation preferred
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu and eSpecs preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred
  • Advanced knowledge in spec writing and quality control/quality assurance
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines
  • Advanced knowledge of construction methods and building material technologies
  • Strong knowledge of architectural building systems
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical documents
  • Strong knowledge of project delivery for both small-scale and large-scale architectural projects
  • Strong knowledge of building technology, evolution, and development of construction materials and products
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Ability to manage team with diplomatic leadership style which puts value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external
  • Ability to communicate and present ideas in a clear, concise, complete, and correct manner both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to proactively problem solve and apply innovative solutions
  • Ability to collaborate and encourage collaboration in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality

    Base Salary Range: $100k-150k annually - Colorado, New York and California locations only
