As a member of the Human Resources team, the Compensation Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and administration of Johnstone's compensation plans to attract, retain and engage employees. Position responsibilities:

  • Ensures job descriptions for all positions in the company are up-to-date and consistent with company guidelines by working with managers and incumbents to define job results and qualifications required for successful job performance. Research job and worker qualifications for similar positions in the market and provides feedback to managers. Manages version control to ensure most recent job descriptions are accessible on the HR SharePoint site, incumbents are aware of changes and previous versions are retired.
  • Assesses jobs and their respective duties to determine classification as exempt or nonexempt.
  • Benchmarks jobs against survey data and other market intelligence and recommends competitive compensation ranges for each position. Utilizes competitive market data and knowledge of internal position scope of responsibilities to recommend job classifications.
  • Ensures competitive pay grade salary structures for each market area by analyzing market trends and recommending updates at least annually.
  • Ensures position and compensation data is accurate in the HRIS by providing updates to the Payroll Specialist using standard operating procedures.Position requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related discipline (e.g., compensation administration, design and strategy or another related field); At least three years of Compensation and/or Human Resources Generalist experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential preferred. Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) preferred.
    • Knowledge of job analysis and job evaluation systems and processes
    • Knowledge of compensation administration principles and methodologies
    • Knowledge of employee benefit administration principles and methodologies.
    • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations related to compensation and benefits, including ERISA, COBRA, ACA, IRS, DOL, Title 7, ADA, FMLA, FLSA
    • Ability to use and leverage compensation modules within an HRIS, ADP or equivalent system.
