DNV Energy Systems' Power System Advisory team advises utilities, ISOs, developers, manufacturers, investors, and governments on technical and economic aspects of strategic transmission development to ensure energy transition goals can be achieved in a reliable, affordable and sustainable way. We are currently working on several exciting new opportunities across North America. and DNV's Renewable & Power Grids group is making strategic and exciting investments in Transmission in 2023 and beyond. As such, you'll be part of a rapidly growing team of power systems experts addressing one of the most significant challenges facing grid decarbonization. We are seeking an experienced Senior Transmission Development Consultant in the transmission development space to ensure the timely delivery of a wide variety of transmission projects, including transmission system development and analytics, technology evaluation, grid integration, and strategic transmission planning consulting. As a project manager you will work with utilities and developers of transmission systems for onshore and offshore grids, utilizing both AC and HVDC technologies. You will be the interface between our customers and DNV's deep, worldwide bench of subject matter experts, combining energy system & economics modeling, power system expertise, operations research, and several multi-disciplinary inputs from other DNV teams. By working closely with industry leaders and cutting-edge technology providers, this role provides you with the opportunity to make an impact on the much-needed transmission system expansion in North America, while expanding your own expertise by learning firsthand from DNV's specialists.This position will include responsibility for inter-disciplinary business support and business development. The key focus will be on growing DNV's Power System Advisory practice by developing innovative yet practical solutions in transmission systems for our customers - and pushing the boundaries of technology maturity and policy implementation.Broad knowledge of the transmission industry is preferred, including market and technology trends and awareness of regulatory proceedings and policies at both the state and national level. The Project Manager will be responsible for leading advisory projects, technical due diligence processes, contributing as a subject matter expert, and coordinating and communicating with clients. The right person will ultimately weave the highly technical project content into a story that identifies technical, contractual, and financial risks which can be understood by engineers and investors.This position will ideally be based in our Dallas (TX) or Seattle (WA) office. However, other office locations or remote work may be considered.What You'll Do

  • Support the growth of existing and new business lines by understanding and clearly communicating DNV's unique value propositions
  • Ensuring that technical analyses are distilled into key takeaways that address a project's economic value proposition and technical feasibility
  • Initiating and coordinating projects across internal specialists (including energy economics, civil and electrical engineering, energy assessment, technology experts, permitting, etc.)
  • Communicating with clients to provide timely and relevant project updates and deliverables while ensuring milestones are met and expectations are exceeded
  • Collaborating with technical specialists to write and peer review reports
  • Developing proposals in response to sole-sourced requests or RFPs
  • Developing and providing subject matter expertise in select areas
  • Participating in continuous improvement efforts for the PSA team, including tool development, process refinement, and lessons-learned activities
  • Developing content for blog posts, industry conferences, and client workshops
  • Juggling multiple projects and levels of responsibility simultaneously

      • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline or related field
      • Broad knowledge of the North American electric industry including recent trends and history, awareness of regulatory proceedings and policies at both the state and national level, including familiarity with RTO/ISO transmission development processes
      • Familiarity with transmission technology (e.g., overhead transmission lines, submarine and underground cables, substations, HVDC converters, offshore transmission, FACTS)
      • Experience managing collaborative projects and/or teams and ability to be customer facing
      • Excellent at building and maintaining personal and professional relationships, including a desire to coach and mentor junior staff and interact routinely with Customers to build rapport and credibility.
      • Ability to interpret, analyze, and synthesize technical information and present it clearly and concisely
      • Ability to understand your audience and tune your communication styles to suit varying degrees of technical and commercial understanding.
      • Maintain a customer-focused, consultative approach to projects and customer needsWork within expected deadlines, while being adaptive to changing scope or customer needs
      • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10-15% of the time
      • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

        • Advanced degree in relevant engineering or quantitative field.
        • Proven record creating thought leadership, such as published journal articles, conference presentations and industry committee/working group participation.
        • Experience with project management and CRM software tools
        • Minimum 5 years of experience in transmission development in the context of engineering, estimation, construction, development, origination, consulting, finance, or project management
        • Candidates with experience in:
          • Offshore wind farm export links
          • HVDC transmission links
