Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARYThe Insurance Coordinator position verifies
patient eligibility and benefits, provides estimates for in office
services and surgical procedures, follows up on patient referrals
and answers incoming billing questions from patients.ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe essential functions include, but are
not limited to the following:Answers incoming billing questions and
concerns from patientsObtains patient eligibility status and
benefit verificationCompiling medical records as neededVerifies
patient referral statusAnswers questions from patients, staff and
insurance companiesIdentifies and prepares patient refundsPrepares,
reviews, and sends patient statementsEvaluates patients financial
status and establishes budget payment plans; follows and reports
status of delinquent accountsReviews accounts for possible
assignment and makes recommendations to the Supervisor; prepares
information for the collection agencyPerforms various collections
actions including contacting patients by phone; correcting and
resubmitting claims to third party payersMaintains strict
confidentiality; adheres to HIPAA guidelines and
regulationsPerforms other work related duties as assignedMINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES)Knowledge of
medical billing/collection practiceKnowledge of business office
proceduresKnowledge of basic medical coding and third-party
operating procedures and practicesAbility to maintain effective
working relationships with patients and employeesAbility to operate
a computer, computer software and basic office equipmentPHYSICAL
DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTThe physical demands described here are
