Requisition Number FAC - 201000000287 Job Title Counseling Lecturer-School Counseling (Spring 2019) Job Description The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Counseling Lecturer-School Counseling in Spring 2019. UNT Dallas - the first public institution of higher education in the city - offers faculty the unique opportunity to help shape the character of a 21st century, learner-focused, comprehensive urban university. This Lecturer position is a renewable, 9-month, non-tenure-track appointment with expectations of a four-course load each semester. The initial one-year appointment begins January 7, 2019. The position includes a teaching load of 12 hours (four courses) per semester. The ideal candidate will be committed to leading the development and growth of the School Counseling Program. Strong candidates will have experience teaching in schools and in working with teachers in K-12 educational settings. Candidates should demonstrate strong promise in developing external funding, and show extensive experience in community outreach and professional and university service, building a strong student organization, securing internship placements with various school districts, and establishing quality relationships with teachers, principals, and superintendents. Preference goes to candidates who provide evidence of leadership in program development, enrollment growth, and excellence in teaching. Responsibilities Include: --- Teaching a broad range of counseling courses both web-based and face to face. Courses taught may include, but are not limited to: School Counseling, Practicum, Internship, Beginning Counseling Skills, Professional Orientation, and Ethics. --- Supervising clinical experiences of school counselors and community counselors in both practicum and internship, post-graduate tracking and maintenance. --- Advising students in a Master's level CACREP aligned school counseling and clinical mental health counseling program. --- Managing aspects of curriculum development/assessment of program learning outcomes, and providing administrative support for departmental and institutional projects. --- Service as career course advisor. --- Participating in Curriculum Development and program enhancement to achieve the mission, goals and expected programs outcomes, while aligning with national accrediting standards. --- Working with culturally diverse populations. --- Engagement in community/school-university partnerships. --- Service on cross-functional committees, assisting with strategic planning initiatives, maintaining key liaison relationships, and assisting with programs and events. --- Candidates who are not eligible for school counseling certification in Texas must also complete 200 CPE hours every 5 years (40 hours/year) to remain qualified for this position. Minimum Qualifications The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications: --- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP (The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) accredited program or equivalent program. --- Eligible for License in Professional Counseling in the State of Texas (LPC). --- Proven teaching excellence in graduate instruction and demonstrated clinical competence in school counseling. --- Documented professional counselor identity as evidenced by education, teaching, clinical experience and professional affiliations (such as American Counseling Association, Texas Counseling Association, American School Counseling Association, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision). --- Documented professional experience and competency in working with culturally diverse populations. --- Willingness to engage in community/school-university partnerships. --- Experience with CACREP accreditation process. --- Evidence of student-oriented instruction and leadership within a collaborative environment. Preferred Qualifications The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: --- Eligible for Texas school counseling certification. --- Demonstrated clinical competence in school counseling. --- Evidence of the leadership necessary to propel the program forward, including demonstrated outreach, recruitment, and service activities. --- Experience with collaborative grant development. --- Counseling skills; knowledge of statistics, diversity, and addiction. --- Clinical experience as clinic director or practitioner, or supervisor of an agency, non-profit organization, or hospital. Physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions Work is primarily sedentary. Sits comfortably to do the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or lifting items weighing up to 15 pounds. Driving University Vehicle?
