Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated, results-driven---Mechanical
Estimator---to join RLP Mechanical Contractors, LLC.---The
candidate must possess the ability to manage a dynamic project bid
listwhile working closely with the executive, project management
and field management teams to develop proposals in a booming
market. To be successful in this position you must be intimately
familiar with HVAC and plumbing systems and possess working
knowledge of the general building systems across all divisions.This
position will develop and provide mechanical estimates our target
customers and the team, including calculation of material
quantities, developing routine estimating scope narratives and
scope sheets, communicating with the subcontracting market, and
compiling data for evaluation and use in bid proposal estimates.

- Reviews bid opportunities and outline winning bid strategies,
risk profile, and assessment of competition for multiple concurrent
pursuits in support of go/no-go decisions.
- Prepare estimates to include preparation of complete itemized
conceptual estimates.
- Communicate mechanical scopes of work to subcontractors and
suppliers in the preparation of comprehensive estimates.
- Reviews bid opportunity docs (RFP, Plans, and Specs) to develop
quantity take-offs, analyses, estimates, and studies for all
mechanical and plumbing items incorporated in the assigned
scope.
- Produce Mechanical & Plumbing estimates.
- Use Trimble AutoBid Estimating software for plumbing and sheet
metal take offs and estimates.
- Work with operations to facilitate general conditions and
general requirements items are properly addressed in the
estimate.
- Work with designers in the development of concept designs where
necessary.
- Manage time and resources to ensure the timely completion of
accurate estimates.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with owners,
general contractors, and subcontractors/vendors.
- Effectively communicate with executive staff in bid reviews
regarding the scope, schedule, market research, risk, and
competition profiles.
- Assist construction operational teams with project buyouts and
large change events.
- Assist with the development of estimating procedures,
guidelines, and lessons learned.
- Gather and analyze bid data for all projects in the historical
cost database.
- Communicate estimates and scopes of work to subcontractors,
colleagues, architects, engineers, and clients.
- Prepare quantity take-offs, analyses, estimates, and studies
for all mechanical and plumbing items incorporated in the assigned
scope from conceptual design through completed construction
documents. Preliminary design work may be required to complete
conceptual estimates.
- Develop working relationships with local material suppliers and
equipment vendors in order to solicit accurate and current pricing
of plumbing fixtures, HVAC equipment, piping sheet metal material,
distribution equipment, and miscellaneous material pricing.
- Develop working relationships with local sub-contractors
(insulators, electricians, controls, rigging, crane companies, etc)
in order to build and maintain a list of qualified bidders for all
projects.
- Work together with operations staff, leadership team and
project management to ensure that general conditions and general
requirements items are properly addressed in the estimate,
including, but not limited to, items such as temporary heating and
cooling.
- Be adept at communicating the interrelationship between
engineering systems and required architectural modifications.
- Coordinate equipment pricing with the company logistics for
mechanical and plumbing estimates.
- Participate in estimate reviews with the design team and
client.
- Participate in project hand-off to Operations to ensure proper
transfer of knowledge from Preconstruction to Operations,
- Prepare scope requisitions for the bidding/procurement of
mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Lead the evaluation of subcontractor proposals relative to
their scope of work. Determine scope coverage and manage the risk
of scope gaps.
- Assist project staff in evaluating large change orders.
- Gather and analyze mechanical and plumbing bid data for all
projects using our system breakdown sheets. Maintain historical
cost database.Qualifications
- Mechanical and plumbing estimating experience or an equivalent
combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Degree Preferred
- Outstanding knowledge of planning, scheduling, hiring,
budgeting, and job costing.
- Deep knowledge of mechanical and plumbing construction
materials, means, and methods.
- Fundamental understanding of general commercial construction,
means, and methods.
- Strong management, interpersonal, organizational, and
analytical skills.
- Ability to perform difficult and complex estimating activities
typical to the engineering and construction industry.
- Ability to work with engineering drawings and
specifications.
- Understand the sequence of construction activities and
efficient trade flows.
- Ability to look at any construction project and break down the
entire project into the required individual material
components.
- Self-motivated team player.
- Prior mechanical and plumbing experience is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents,
drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project
schedules.
- Must be skilled in prioritizing, problem-solving,
multi-tasking, and organizing.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
- As a condition of employment, you may be required to pass a

background check results.Working Environment:Job is performed in a
combination of office and outdoor site locations. The office
setting requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse.
Outdoor settings include walking, driving, and carrying supplies
throughout all seasons with exposure to heat and cold conditions.
-Physical Requirements:This position requires the ability to
maneuver around work sites, see, hear, and verbally communicate
with co-workers and clients. Essential and marginal functions may
require maintaining the physical condition necessary for bending,
stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of
time; frequent opportunities to move about and to work outside the
office environment for extended periods involving exposure to the
elements with weather that will include extreme heat, cold, wind,
rain or other inclement weather, walking over rough and uneven
surfaces, and routine lifting of up to 35 pounds. If required, must
properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
including but not limited to; hard hats, eye protection,
respiratory protection, and hearing protection. Must maintain a
