Job Summary
The lab of Dr. Evan Noch in the Department of Neurology is seeking
a motivated Research Technician with interest and expertise in
molecular biology and/or molecular neuro-oncology. Several ongoing
projects in this capacity involve the study of glioblastoma
metabolism. The technician will work directly with an MD/PhD
Assistant Professor of Neurology. Under supervision, this
technician will assist scientists, both independently and
collaboratively, with laboratory and investigative procedures.
Suitable applicants should have experience in techniques in
molecular biology and/or animal colony work as described below.
This role performs various assays, imaging experiments, and other
technical duties to assist with the research activities of the
laboratory. Additionally, the role requires duties pertaining to
general maintenance of the lab and lab organization.
Experience and Education
--- Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment
and no experience required. or
--- Two (2) years of college with emphasis in coursework in the
field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at
the level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent. or
--- High school graduation or GED and four (4) years of laboratory
experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical
Assistant or equivalent.
Laboratory Job Duties
--- Assists in conducting experiments and working on research
problems in molecular biology, such fields as physiology, tissue
culture, chemistry, and other related fields by performing
procedures described by the supervisor.
--- Records resulting data in accordance with established
methods.
--- Confers with supervisor concerning results obtained and
modifies procedures in accordance with instruction of
supervisor.
--- Independently or semi-independently designs and carries out
experiments. Analyzes and interprets experimental results and
provides input related to subsequent experimental designs.
--- Evaluates, recommends, and develops new techniques to assist in
overall laboratory efficiency.
--- Responsible for tissue culture and cell culture activities.
--- Runs routine biochemistry assays, including western blot and
RT-qPCR.
--- Performs routine molecular biological procedures including DNA
and RNA extraction gel electrophoresis, and cloning.
--- Performs animal colony maintenance, breeding, and experimental
procedures.
--- Ensures clean general lab working area and is responsible for
storing glassware.
--- Ensures that safe laboratory practices are followed, including
use and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
--- Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment, and/or
reagents.
--- Responsible for the receipt, storage, cataloguing and shipment
of purchasing orders, samples, and reagents within and between
institutions.
--- Ensures that facilities and equipment are in optimal and
working condition and assists with the coordination of preventative
maintenance and repairs as needed. May perform minor repairs if
qualified and as needed.
Job Duties
--- Performs routine scientific and medical research work in
biomedical engineering, optics, and/or physics.
--- Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and
apparatus.
--- Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures,
discussing results with supervisor.
--- Assists in collection of data for project reports.
--- Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning
implementation of new procedures.
--- May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of
laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of
research project.
--- Performs other duties as assigned.
